Terms of business
These terms apply to brush-cutting work carried out by Greenviews, a trading division of pw‑services. They are written plainly and are not intended to catch anyone out — the scope and the pricing here are the same as on the rest of the site.

1. Who you are contracting with
pw‑services is a sole trader business registered for self assessment, trading as Greenviews for brush-cutting work.
1b Alberton Road, Bristol, BS16 1HH

2. What the service is
Brush cutting only. A professional battery brush cutter is used to cut standing vegetation — bramble, thistle, nettle, dock, scrub, and soft woody stems to roughly two inches — followed by a line head to finish closer to the ground.
Cut material is left where it falls.
Not included
- Raking, clearing, stacking or barrowing cut material
- Removal or disposal of waste of any kind
- Hedge cutting, pruning, topiary or general garden maintenance
- Felling, stump removal, or anything requiring a chainsaw
- Excavation, digging, or any work penetrating the ground
- Chemical treatment of any kind
If the brush cutter will not cut it, it does not get cut. Where something falls outside this scope it can be discussed on site, but nothing outside it should be assumed to be included.
3. Charges
£200 for the first day. This covers a pre-visit assessment, travel, and one fully charged battery of cutting on site — in practice sixty to ninety minutes of blade time depending on the density of growth.
£150 for each further day, where a further day is agreed.
The battery is a genuine physical limit rather than a billing device. Where a plot proves heavier than it appeared and the battery is exhausted before the work is finished, the options are discussed at that point: a further day at £150, or stopping where we are. Neither is imposed. If most of the work is done and you would rather finish the remainder yourself, that is a sensible outcome and will be said so.
Prices include no VAT. pw‑services is not VAT registered.
4. Payment
Domestic and non-account customers. Payment is due before work begins on the day, by bank transfer, PayPal or cash. Electronic payment must be visible as received — a screenshot of a sent payment is not sufficient. Work will not start otherwise, and this is not negotiable on the day.
Trade and account customers. Where work is instructed against a purchase order, payment is due within 30 days of the work being carried out.
Interest and reasonable recovery costs on overdue commercial invoices may be claimed under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
5. Booking and cancellation
A booking is confirmed once a date has been agreed in writing, by email or message.
Cancellation with more than 24 hours’ notice is free of charge.
Cancellation within 24 hours of the agreed start, or an inability to proceed on arrival for reasons within your control, is charged at the full day rate — £200 for a first day, £150 for a subsequent one. Reasons within your control include no access, no attendance where attendance was agreed, unrestrained animals, or the site being unworkable for reasons that were known and not disclosed.
Work will not proceed in conditions that make it unsafe — high wind, lightning, or ground conditions that make footing unreliable. Where I cancel or stop for weather or any other reason of my own, no charge is made and the work is rearranged.
Consumer cancellation rights
Where you are a consumer and the contract was concluded away from my business premises or at a distance, you have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days. If you ask for the work to begin within that period and it is completed, that right is lost. If it has begun but is not complete, you may be charged for what has been done.
6. Access and site condition
You are asked to be present while work is carried out. Where that is not possible, access arrangements can be agreed in advance — but somebody must be contactable by telephone throughout.
Before work begins, please make sure that:
- Access to the working area is clear and unlocked
- Pets and livestock are secured indoors or well away from the area, and remain so until work is finished
- Children are kept clear of the working area throughout
- Vehicles, garden furniture and anything breakable are moved clear
- You have told me about anything hidden in the growth — glass, wire, metal, rubble, low stumps, drain covers, cables or pipes at or near the surface
A brush cutter throws debris at speed. The working area is treated as an exclusion zone while the machine is running, and I will stop it if anyone or any animal enters. Repeated stopping reduces what can be achieved on the battery.
7. Protected trees, habitat and wildlife
Before any work, the site is checked against published records of protected trees, tree preservation zones, conservation areas, designated habitat and flood warning zones. The results form part of the risk assessment.
That check reports what is published. It is not a guarantee that nothing is protected: records vary in quality between local authorities, some publish nothing at all, and the check is run against the centre of the postcode rather than the boundaries of your land.
You confirm that you are the owner or occupier of the land, or have the owner’s authority, and that you are not aware of any preservation order, conservation area consent requirement, tenancy condition or other restriction that would prevent the work.
I will not cut a tree subject to a preservation order, or carry out work in a conservation area without evidence that the required notice has been given. Damaging a protected tree is a criminal offence.
Nesting birds, hedgehogs and reptiles are protected by law. The working area is checked before starting, and work will stop and move elsewhere if active nesting or wildlife is found. Where that means the job cannot be completed, the charge is for the time attended.
8. Insurance and liability
Public liability insurance is arranged before any confirmed job begins. Details are available on request.
I am liable for damage or injury caused by my own negligence, and nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Liability cannot be excluded for those things and is not attempted here.
I am not liable for:
- Damage caused by objects hidden in vegetation that were not disclosed and could not reasonably have been seen
- Damage to unmarked services, irrigation, cabling or drainage at or just below the surface
- Injury to people or animals entering the working area while the machine is running
- Loss arising from work that could not be completed because of weather, access, wildlife or a legal restriction
Where a claim does arise, liability is limited to the value of the work unless the loss results from negligence, in which case it is a matter for the insurers.
9. Complaints
If something is not right, say so on the day if possible and in any event within seven days, by email or telephone. Most things are easier to put right while the machine is still in the van.
10. General
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
Where you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
